The Isle of Arran, surprisingly only two hours from the hustle of Glasgow (including an hour ferry crossing), is justifiably proud of its title 'Scotland in miniature', with its rugged hills in the North, Goat fell being the highest (just under 3,000ft) and the rolling hills in the South.

Greyholme sits next to the fourth tee of the Brodick Golf course, one of seven on the island, a beautiful secluded beach is a mere five minute stroll away. Brodick Castle with it's world famous gardens and the Auchrannie Spa Hotel with its two swimming pools and all it's amenities including a beauty salon if you fancy some pampering. The award winning Kilmichael Hotel and various other pubs and restaurants The Brodick Bar/Brasserie (a personal favourite) in the village where you will find James Chocolate Factory, the finest chocolates in the world, in my opinion, are all within easy walking distance.

The Heritage museum, Cheese shop, Arran Aromatics and Brewery are all a ten minute walk away where you can also pick up the start of the Goat fell path.

Arran is still one of the few places left in Scotland that have red squirrel, look out too for red deer and golden eagles as you go north to enchanting Lochranza with its ancient Castle, whisky distillery and scenic harbour, where with luck you may see otters, seals, dolphins and maybe basking sharks.

Spectacular hill walks with breathtaking scenery, please don't go anywhere without your camera. Other regular pastimes such as
fishing, pony trekking, canoeing and paragliding for the more actively inclined.

Or you could just sit by the log burning fire with friends and a fine Arran malt, having a good old blether*.

The Isle of Arran has few equals and justifiably lives up to its title of Scotland in miniature.
